Hard Drive recovery

One of the major sources of data loss is the failure or corruption of a hard drive, and recovery of lost data has become an important new industry in the IT world. Although there are other types of data storage media, hard drives are probably the most widespread, and data loss has become a major new source of grief.

There are ways to minimize the possibility of data loss, and one of those is to be aware of possible signs of an impending disk crash. If your computer starts making weird mechanical sounds that you have never heard before - groans, clicks or whirrs - this is a possible sign that the disk may be experiencing problems. You can also look out for disk error messages when the computer boots up. If either of these problems occur it's a good idea to buy a new hard drive and copy the whole of the failing disk onto the new one, that way recovery need not be necessary.

The second way of minimizing the possibility of having to call in hard drive recovery experts is to carry out frequent backups according to a fixed schedule. If you stick to the schedule and do later suffer a loss, backups will make hard drive recovery much easier.

Depending on the system at your workplace, you may be able to program the computer so that it automatically does backups to a file server or the like. If you need advice or assistance with hard drive recovery, don't hesitate to call one of our technicians for help.
